In this time of political and economic upheaval, is there anything that can save us? With joblessness at a long time high, is there anything that can save us? I don’t believe there is any one thing that can save us from these things. However, mankind needs a savior. While we might like to be saved politically or economically, our greatest need is to be saved spiritually. Thanks be to God that He has provided a way for mankind to be saved: the blood of Jesus.
Sin is a transgression of God’s law (1 John 3:4). Sin separates man from God (Isaiah 59:1-2). Jesus provided for all of us a way to be brought back to God when He shed His blood on the cross.
John tells us that Jesus “washed us from our sins in His own blood” (Revelation 1:5). We are given an illustration of this in Revelation 7:13-14. John is allowed to see some individuals praising God before His throne. John is told that these are saints that had come out of the tribulation caused by the Roman government. They were allowed where they were because they had “washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” They were spiritually cleansed because they came into contact with the blood of Jesus.
The Hebrews writer tells us that our consciences are purged by the blood of Jesus (Hebrews 9:14). Our conscience lets us know of our sins and it can be cleansed only by the blood of Jesus. What we will discuss in the next issue is who can be saved by the blood of Jesus.
